Advent Notepad 9517 please help?

We have bought an Advent Notepad 9517 from the UK but we live in rural Spain ,the problem we have is that the mouse pad wont work we have had to buy an optical mouse, but as it is a brand new pc this is an issue for us can anyone help I,m not very technical but if anyone has had this problem and managed to sort it out I would be really grateful for any help the user manual only refers to desktop pc's.
