How do i run the game Fallout on Vista using DosBox?

In anticipation with the upcoming fallout 3, I decided to familiarize myself with the previous games in the series. I downloaded Fallout and Dosbox but i dont know how to play it. When i try to open fallout with Dosbox it says "illegal command." I feel like an idiot for not knowing but can you please help me?
